That’s a Wrap: Cardiff’s Record-Breaking Summer of 2026

The sun has set on the biggest summer of live music Cardiff has ever seen — and what a summer it was.

Across 29 nights, Depot Live and UK promoters Cuffe and Taylor brought almost 100 of the world’s best artists to Cardiff Castle and Blackweir Fields, drawing a staggering 360,000 people through the gates. That’s very nearly the entire population of the city, all gathered to watch live music under the Welsh summer sky since June.

It’s a landmark moment for both series, and one the teams behind them are already looking to top in 2027.

Two venues, one incredible season

The 9,000-capacity Cardiff Castle hosted 24 headline shows and welcomed 193,000 fans over the course of the summer. Just across Bute Park, the 35,000-capacity Blackweir Fields delivered five enormous nights to a combined 165,000 people. Many shows across both sites sold out completely.

The season went out on a high this weekend with two sold-out shows at the Castle from US rock heavyweights Hollywood Vampires and Jimmy Eat World — a fitting, full-throttle finish to a summer that had a little bit of everything.

Something for everyone

If there’s one thing that defined summer 2026, it was range. Cardiff Castle opened in early June with a sold-out set from house music tastemaker Chris Stussy, and the dancefloor energy kept coming with Pete Tong’s Ibiza Classics, Sammy Virji, and garage and grime legends The Streets.

Rock fans were spoiled too — Scottish icons Biffy Clyro, Northern Irish favourites Two Door Cinema Club, Alter Bridge’s inaugural Blackbird Festival, and the weekend’s closing sets from Jimmy Eat World and Hollywood Vampires. Punk had its moment courtesy of Sex Pistols featuring Frank Carter, Bowling for Soup and Frank Turner & The Sleeping Souls.

And then there were the pop stars and icons: Katy Perry, Billy Ocean, David Byrne, MIKA, David Gray, Ethel Cain, Self Esteem, Empire of the Sun, Garbage, Skunk Anansie, Bastille, McFly, Richard Ashcroft and The Wombats all graced the Castle stage.

Over at Blackweir Fields, the scale went up another notch. Rock legends The Cure opened the series with a sold-out 35,000-capacity show. Vocal powerhouse Teddy Swims followed with another sell-out, global superstar Lewis Capaldi played two nights, and the series closed under a sea of bald caps as GRAMMY Award-winning rapper Pitbull brought Mr Worldwide to the Welsh capital.

Cuffe and Taylor promoter Julian Murray added: “We love Cardiff and it’s clear that Cardiff loves live music. This has been an incredible summer for these two very special venues, and we’re now working to bring even more globally renowned musicians to the city next year.”

What’s next?

Plans for 2027 are already in motion, with headliners for both venues to be revealed over the coming months.
